South African Hostages Undergo Evaluation before Trial

The South African couple, Bruno Pelizzari and Debbie Calitz, who were held hostage by Somali pirates for 20 months are now being psychologically evaluated to see if they can face some of the Somali pirates who took them hostage.

The case against five suspected pirates is being handled in the Netherlands and the couple had intended to travel to the country in October to testify against the men. First though, they have to undergo an evaluation by a Pretoria psychologist who will then send a report to the judge in the Netherlands to say whether or not Bruno and Debbie are competent enough to testify.

Calitz believes she would be able to face her former captors as she believes the experience has made her a better person since coming home from their ordeal.
