Medupi Power Station Remains Closed After Protest

The Medupi power station near Lephalale, Limpopo, has been closed since last week due to protests by Eskom contract employees as their contracts were due to end.

Murray & Roberts spokesperson Ed Jardim said that operations were put on hold on Friday after several workers and some equipment on site were damaged. Since the closure, no violence has been reported since then. “The site is calm,” he said.

Currently it is unclear as to when operations will resume at the power station.
